Company and Position Overview
Reporting to the KRMG News Director, the News Producer develops, produces, writes, voices, and delivers top local, state, and national news stories weekday mornings on the KRMG Morning News. The producer shift is 3:30 am – 11:30 am Monday through Friday. The producer is responsible for working closely with the host to write factual, compelling, quality news stories with urgency and relatability for radio, as well as digital and social channels. You will produce local, state, and national news content that contributes to our success daily and adheres to our station research. You will develop trusted sources that are regularly used for research and story development. The producer delivers breaking news, top national/state/local stories, red alert traffic reports, and severe weather alerts on the station’s radio, digital, and social platforms. The producer also prepares to anchor newscasts as needed, as well as filling in as a backup for our morning traffic anchor and/or morning board op/producer positions.
Key Responsibilities
- Research, produce, write, voice, and report news stories and features for radio and digital platforms
- Follows all company digital and social media policies and procedures
- Conducts, records and trims interviews for use in news stories on-air and digital platforms
- Prepared and anchors newscasts live on KRMG
- Reports on breaking news, elections, severe weather, and assigned topics/stories
- Backup board operator for morning news program
- Backup anchor for morning traffic reporting (may include real-time TV appearance on partner stations)
- Other duties as assigned in a broadcast newsroom
Professional Experience / Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, broadcast journalism, or communications, or minimum three to five years of professional radio experience.
- Proven storytelling skills with the ability to clearly articulate details, issues, and solutions to an audience
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Strong organizational and leadership skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage conflicting priorities
- Must be a team player with a positive “Whatever it Takes” attitude
- Proactive, self-motivated player, demonstrating problem-solving skills with the ability to work under minimal supervision
- Ability to prioritize and deliver results against a work plan in a fast-paced environment, giving attention to detail even under high pressure situations
- Ability to remain calm, neutral, and provide unbiased reporting on polarizing news stories, political situations, and life-impacting events.
- Prior experience with audio and digital editing programs (including Adobe Creative Suite), Newsroom systems (including NewsBoss), office productivity software (including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Chrome) and social media platform management software is highly preferred.
- Must possess a valid Oklahoma Driver’s license and be insurable to drive company vehicles.
